Blown fibre insulation
Blown fibre insulation is a popular choice for many attic and loft insulation solutions due to its versatility and endurance. The process involves blowing mineral fibres evenly between the joists in the loft. To do this our insulation specialists utilise special industrial equipment to ensure that the fibre is blown evenly and achieves a good spread. It works especially well in lofts where the joists are obstructed or the use of blanket insulation isn’t suitable.
What do I need to consider?
As with any type of insulation installation, a surveyor will need to check a couple of things before allowing you to have blown fibre loft insulation installed in your property. Most importantly they need to do the following:
- Clear the loft. This may be done by the insulation installer if previously agreed.
- Ensure wiring is dealt with correctly. Wires need to be above the blown fibre insulation but should not be made to stretch. This means an electrician may be required to re-route more problematic wires.
- Ensure pipes and tanks are well insulated in addition to the loft, as pipes will need to be protected from freezing due to less heat escaping into the loft.
